Case Study – Joshilyn Jackson

The Brief

Ms. Jackson came to me as a referral. She had a blog that she felt no longer represented where she was in her professional journey. She wanted a new look which we narrowed the tone down to, "edgy whimsy." The project was timed to immediately precede the launch of "The Opposite of Everyone."

The Implementation

Joshilyn_Header_112We started with the tone and moved quickly toward the base of the design, the header. Ms. Jackson sent me a copy of her signature. I worked with it and gave it an orange watercolor effect. I found the flourishes in an old children's book that is in the public domain. With live trace, I cleaned up the image and also gave it the watercolor effect. The end result was a header that was personal and oddly bookish.

I added an animated hero image that tells the story of her recent book launch. Elements of the design were carried throughout the rest of the design. For the "Books" page, we created a floating gallery of the book covers.

It was quite an honor to be chosen for this project. It was an incredible experience working so closely with an artist of this caliber. I am glad to have been a part of creating a personal space for Ms. Jackson and her fans to come together.
